Sonoran Gold Turquoise

Sonoran Gold is one of my most favorite types of turquoise. I love the variety of colors you can get from deep greens to light blues and everything in between! I use this stone in most of my work because I love it so much! Sonoran Gold is mined near Cananea, Mexico and was discovered in 2019. The unique thing about this turquoise is it does not come in veins like most turquoise but rather individual nuggets in a clay deposit. The high grade is a beautiful two tone which fades from baby blue to lime green with a yellowish spiderweb matrix. This turquoise is particularly soft and is often stabilized or treated with the Zachary process. The Zachary process improves the properties of natural turquoise without using artificial additives such as plastic. As a result of this process the turquoise is more resistant to discoloration, oil absorption, and will take a better polish.
